FAQ's:
Q-I want a free in-home estimate, what do I do?
A-You have two options and both are painless! You can email us at ron@thegroutmedic.com or you can call us at 916-933-5598.
Q-When do you do estimates?
A-We do free in-home estimates 7 days a week. We do them early and we do them late to accommodate your work schedule.
Q-How long does an estimate take?
A-We can usually pre-view the work you want, write the estimate, review the estimate with you and get out of your way in 10-20 minutes.
Q-Can't you just give me an estimate over the phone?
A-Amy who does most of the estimates is really nice. It would hurt her feelings if you didn't want to see her! Almost every shower, counter and floor is unique in some way. That's why we do free in-home estimates and do them on your schedule, 7 days a week.
Q-When I decide to schedule The Grout Medic to do my work, how soon can I expect the work to be done?
A-We can usually get you scheduled within 7 to 10 days. We do have a harder time around holidays when it can be up to 12 to 15 days. We do work weekends (Sundays too!)
Q- Do I really need to seal my grout?
A- Natural stone, porous tile and grout are durable surfaces, but if you don't properly treat them with a protective sealer, they are easily susceptible to discoloration. Grout Medic sealer protects the surface by putting a barrier between the contaminate and the stone, tile or grout. Grout Medic sealer provides greater stain resistance and allowing you time to react and clean the surface making it easier for ongoing maintenance. Grout Medic sealers help preserve and enhance the beauty and prolong the life of the surface.
Q- Will the sealer keep my grout from getting dirty?
A- Yes and No! Grout Medic sealer penetrates and 'clogs' the pores of grout. So "yes" if you properly maintain your grout with a gentle, pH-neutral formula on a regular basis (without exception). "No" if you don't properly maintain your grout (such as using anything that is and abrasive cleaner - see next question!
Q- Do I have to use special cleaners on my sealed grout?
A- Yes, you must use pH-Neutral cleaners. Cleaners not specifically formulated for natural stone, tile or grout, can breakdown the sealer and remove its protective properties. Even worse are cleaning products that contain lemon, vinegar, bleach, ammonia. Also stay way from scouring powders. Repeated use will remove your sealer and in some cases strip the pigmentation from colored grout.
Q- How long do sealers last?
A- Grout Medic sealer is an industrial grade; 20 year rated Teflon-based sealer. Many manufacturers promote 10-20 years. The rating on ANY sealer is rated for 'ideal' conditions (meaning very light use). The life of the grout will vary depending upon wear, maintenance practices and the effects of the cleaners being used. A general rule of thumb is re-sealing high-traffic areas every 2 years. High-traffic areas include the entryway to the garage, kitchen floors, and entryway to backyard, front door entryway, around toilets, kitchen counters, bathroom counters, shower floors and walls. The Ceramic Tile Council of America recommends sealing once a year, as the tile installation breathes thereby opening microscopic fissures in the grout.
Q- If you re-grout my shower, how long will it take?
A- Re-grouting a shower stall usually takes about 5.5 hours. Re-grouting a shower/tub combo usually takes about 4.5 hours.
Q- After my shower has been re-grouted and sealed, the grout still looks wet when I shower. Is it supposed to do that?
A- Yes, grout is a cementious product and just like a new driveway, for about 2 years the grout will "darken" when wet and dry back to the light color when the shower walls and floor dry. High quality grout sealers, such as the Grout Medic Grout Guard will allow the grout to "show wet" when they come in contact with water.
Q- After my shower is re-grouted, caulked and sealed how long do I need to wait before using it?
A- 24 hours after our service vehicle leaves your driveway you can use the shower again.
Q-I need some repair work done, but don't know the exact name/color of my grout, what do I do?
A-Don't stress. This is what we are trained to do. We will go over all your options with you. We will review the grout color charts with you and give you suggestions, based on experience. We will leave you with grout color charts, so you can review. After we narrow it down, we will bring a handful of grout colors with us to let you pick the best one BEFORE we do the repair.
Q-What is grout staining or re-coloring?
A-It's a process that allows you to change the color of your existing grout, without ripping it all out. You can pick any color, it doesn't matter what color grout you have now. You can chose from up to 60 colors! It is a latex based stain, with a silicone sealer built right into the stain. The Grout Medic Stain is a permanent penetrating stain that is absorbed throughout the entire grout joint. If you are looking for a "new" look in your floor, shower or counter, staining is for you.
Q-How long will the Grout Stain last? Can people tell it was re-colored when done?
A-The Grout Medic Grout Stain is rated to last up to 20 years with proper maintenance. It is rated to last up to10 years in showers. It has the exact same appearance as your existing grout (except clean and looking like brand new!)
Q- How long has your company been in business?
A- The Grout Medic has been in business for 10 years.
